Changelog

1.0.3

Better with more than one display

Dragging to an edge between two displays snaps onto the display you're on, and quick drags toward the bottom of the screen snap instead of being ignored. Windows moved between displays arrive at the right size.

Also in this version

  • The gap picker offers minimized windows and windows of hidden apps on macOS Tahoe too.
  • Typing a name with a number in it, like “Q3 Planning”, filters the picker instead of placing a window.
  • A window too big for its half or third stays against its edge, and the picker opens beside it.
  • With Stage Manager on, snapped windows leave room for the strip, and the picker offers windows from the current stage.
  • If Rectangle, Magnet or a similar app is also running, the menu and Settings offer to quit it.
  • Restore brings back a window whose display has been unplugged, and full-screen windows are left alone.
1.0.2

Gluestick keeps itself up to date

About once a day, Gluestick checks for a new version. When there is one, a small dot appears on the menu bar icon and you install it from the menu. Nothing pops up, and you can turn the checks off in Settings.

An update installs only if the download matches its published checksum and is signed by the same developer.

Also in this version

  • If macOS's own edge tiling is on, the menu offers to turn it off, since the two fight over the window.
  • Dragging a window to an edge that touches another display snaps it after a short pause at the edge.
  • Dragging a window straight to the left or right edge near the top of the screen gives a half, not a quarter.
1.0.1

At home in the menu bar

Gluestick now lives only in the menu bar. Its Dock icon appears while Settings is open, and minimizing or closing Settings tucks it away again.

The “Show icon in Dock” setting is gone, since it's no longer needed.

1.0.0

The first release

  • Snap any window to a half, quarter, third or two thirds of the screen, maximize it or center it, by keyboard shortcut or from the menu bar. Restore puts it back.
  • Drag a window to a screen edge to snap it: sides for halves, corners for quarters, the top to maximize and the bottom for thirds.
  • After a snap, pick which window fills the space that's left, from live previews. Quarters and thirds ask for each gap in turn.
  • Move a window to the previous or next display.
  • Change any shortcut, leave space between windows and launch at login in Settings.
  • Previews are captured only while the picker is open, and never saved.
